“Venom” new on Netflix: So it goes in “Venom 2”

After “Venom” comes “Venom: Let There Be Carnage”, but of course the sequel will first run in the cinema and not on Netflix, where you can now stream Part 1. Here’s what is known about the villains Carnage and Shriek and the storyline.

The mid-credit scene of “Venom” already indicates the direction in which “Venom 2” will go: In it, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) visits a prisoner in the San Quentin State Prison near San Francisco.

This is called Cletus Kasady and is played by Woody Harrelson. Every viewer should be able to imagine that a well-known actor like Harrelson was not only hired for the short guest appearance at the end, but that a future appearance should be prepared. But who is this Cletus Kasady?

The answer to this is also already in the credits scene: “There will be carnage” says Cletus in the English version, which has been translated in the German version as “there’s a carnage à la Carnage” to allude to the comic book villain Get Carnage. You can watch the mid-credit scene again in an extended version here:

Like Venom, Carnage is an alien symbiote who attacks Cletus and makes him even more powerful than Venom (or Spider-Man), as he not only gets into his body, but even directly into his bloodstream.

But Carnage isn’t the only adversary Eddie and Venom have to deal with in “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (the sequel’s official title).

Naomie Harris will also be there as the villain Shriek. In the comics, Shriek has sound forces with which she can fly, among other things, but is also attacked by a symbiote. It is quite possible that we will also see this in “Venom 2”.

Much more is not known about the plot of “Venom 2”. At least as interesting, however, is how Sony is expanding its own Marvel universe in it and in “Morbius”, which will be released on March 18, 2021.

After the great success of “Venom”, Sony is now fully relying on the so-called Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (SPUMC), for which numerous films are now in development. The latest entry: A film about (presumably) Spider-Woman by Olivia Wilde.

In order to weld this universe together, sooner or later (ie either in “Morbius” or “Venom 2”) the first appearance of Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who is the only character to switch back and forth between Disney’s MCU and SPUMC becomes.
